Excited...

  • To be done with school in 4 weeks and have a summer va-cay (vacation).
  • To go up to Deep Creek Lake, MD with friends this weekend for Memorial Day
  • That I have a beautiful car...and that I can drive it around. :)
  • That one day I will be married to an amazing guy that the Lord is preparing for me as I type. It will be so great when it happens.
  • That my hair was still curly from yesterday's prom and that it looked great at church today.
  • To be here in DC. To see the history. Experience the culture. Share the Gospel. Make lots of friends.
  • To start from scratch next school year and actually have time to prepare my lessons/curriculum.
  • To be pregnant. I know it sounds weird, but truly I can't wait.
  • To see my family in less than 2 months and be able to spend some quality time with them.
  • To see the fruits of exercising faith in the Lord and his timetable.
Life is good.

A Virtuous Woman...her price is far above rubies.

When I am a mother I am going to teach my daughters and my sons these important principles:

1. A woman's worth is not dependent on how sensual, seductive, and beautiful she is.

2. A man should not value a woman merely for her looks and what she will "put out."

3. A woman and a man's roles are separate and distinct for a purpose. Women should not feel unequal towards a man because she is the nurturer. That is a powerful role in and of itself.

4. Modesty is not only present in dress, but in thought and in action. It's one of the most attractive qualities a woman can possess.

5. Women and men should work on developing attributes that will bring them closer to the Lord. They need to be taught to value those attributes in others as they are looking for potential spouses. In others words, it's the "hotness within" that matters most.

So many of these thoughts have come to me within the last 24 hours as I thought about my experiences at prom. I am so grateful that I was taught these values throughout my life.

Thank you for those of you who have contributed to this upbringing! I have a much stronger testimony of this after seeing some very immoral behavior last night.

BRING ON THE VIRTUE!

Prom Part Deux

Not many people in their lives get to go back to Prom. But I am one of those lucky ones that did! Yes, as a high school teacher, I got to chaperon prom for my students. I recruited my friend, Quinn, to come with me. He gladly complied to come, as he wanted to relive those "fabulous" memories.

Though the dancing was out of this world raunchy (more thoughts to come about that), we had a great time together. I got him a boutineer, he got me a rose. It was magical. And it is always fun to dress and look, as Quinn said, "Dang hot." Who can complain really? Here are a few shots of the happy couple.

We had to get a prom pose of course...

My roommates saw me off. KA curled my hair as I am not so talented in that department.

Even if the prom was raunch, at least I got to dress up and spend some time with Quinn.

Good times here in DC.

My New Ride

The third duck: Buying a car. Check.

I now officially feel like a real adult after buying my first car. It's a 2008 Honda Accord and it's absolutely gorgeous. I got it all the way up in Baltimore, but hey, it was a great deal.

Here I am after purchasing the car. Papers in hand. It's official.

Here are a few views of the car. Check it.

And the inside. It looks brand new.

I'm still trying to figure out the name for my car. So far a few people have suggested Goldie and Oscar (because it's the color of an Academy Award). I feel like it will just come to me. So if any of you have any suggestions, please post.

And if you come to DC, guess what?? I can actually drive you around!

Getting my ducks in a row...one-at-a-time

Remember how I moved out to DC as a humble, young college grad?

Well now I am working on getting my ducks in a row. Duck by duck.

The first duck: Full time job. Check.

The second duck: Moving into a new room with a window, a bathroom and a closet. Can you believe it? I am so grateful for natural light. Check.

The third duck: Buying a car. This should be happening VERY soon.

The fourth duck: TBD. But it's between getting a touch phone or having a boyfriend. We'll see which one happens first. I am going to be optimistic and say the boyfriend, yes definitely the boyfriend.

Granted these things will not equate into complete happiness, but it hasn't hurt either.

I have always loved ducks. Quack.

Starstruck

Maybe I'm becoming a nerd, but I got so excited on Tuesday when I met one of my congressman, Jason Chaffetz. He spoke to the YSA at institute this past week about his conversion to the church and his testimony. It was very inspirational. My roommate works for him and gave us the VIP meeting. It was awesome. Sarah and I were a little spastic, but hey, this is DC, and getting to meet your congressman is pretty neat.

I should probably read up on his political beliefs now.
